Hopes for the Dungeons in GWEN
Now, I hear there will be 18 multi-level dungeons in GWEN. This brings some hopes and fears to the fore. Primarily I really hope these are not like the elite missions (areas). Not 5 hours at least to do, not full of odd environmental effects and such.
What I hope they will be like is the catacombs or SF. Something thr average player can dip and delve into but not clear the whole place/dedicate a day towards doing it. SF works very well becuase the 6 main quests that take place in it take under an hour to do, and they are completely possible with henchies/heroes.
I very rarely play with other humans, I prefer to talk to my guild/friends whilst playing with henchies/heroes or solo. For this reason I don't want these dungeons to be no hero/henchy zones like FoW and The Elite missions, I just can't rely on other players and they can't rely on me (I often have to go afk for a few minutes). It would also be interesting if there were dungeons with 2 man teams only, or solo only (like the frozen UW, which was great (just hard enough to be fun)) as opposed to the standard 12 man/8 man teams.
Another thing I'd like to say is, I hope these dungeons will not just be "go the whole hog or don't bother starting" affairs. In SF you never have to clear the whole place, you can simply do quests in the area they involve and then get out again. In WOW instances have quests centered around them, starting with a little recon around the area, then dipping in and killing some instance mobs, slowly the quest chain builds up until you get a quest with big rewards which is basically "Kill the big boss at the end of xxxxx dungeon". Just like the SF quests.
Well I think that outlines my views, what are yours?

/agree totally. I am more of an individual player myself. After trying to get more groups into The Deep and Urgoz's Warren, for the purpose of making money/getting those awesome weapons/weapon skins, I realized that its a lot harder, due to two reasons:
a. Party making...Anet has forced us to make solid builds that feature no ingenuity. Also, certain skills, ESPECIALLY those from the other chapters, are a must. It's totally worthless; you can NOT have a factions-only team in the deep or urgoz.
b. Long, boring, tedious, especially to make a party. Also, no one is there. About 20 ppl in lobby, and considering you need 12 ppl or 9man for deep, its not good enough, because you will have excess of some classes (b/p, w/a) and not enough of others (mo). Also, if something comes up in rl, too bad...urgoz and deep are only for people with no lives, idiot!
IMHO: Solo areas and 2man would be GREAT!!!! I would especially like areas that are profession-specific. Perhaps one dungeon for each profession. now THAT would rock so much!

Yes, PLEASE.
Reopen the catacombs as one of the 18 dungeons!
It was big, it was great, it had a lot of different areas.
And many of those 18 dungeons should be in that way. Not just plain boring areas, but more like the Catacombs or Furnace of Sorrow.

haha whats up mazey? I do agree. I think that they will have outposts/towns before each area. In the article that you read about the 18 dungeons, the designers asked themselves before creating games/areas...'If I had 15-30 minutes before dinner, could I complete this?' and i think thats how it will be. They also said that it will broken into 3 acts...kinda like how factions is. You get the lore of the story, then you choose a path, and finally the paths merge for the big ending. They also said its totally underground, which seems to be a dungeon for me...so I am just going to assume that there will be 6 zones per act, and the final zone being the end. I am with you though, all the way. Please break them up so I can do them 15-30 minutes before dinner XD

Yeah. Don't let the dungeons go to waste, like Urgoz and The Deep. Almost NO ONE plays them.
